Placeholder and Plans

I was going to post a choral anthem for a competition today, but I've realised judging hasn't happened yet. I don't want to accidentally disqualify myself by compromising anonymity, so you'll have to wait a little longer. I am hoping to have more compositions and arrangements to post this year. As an experiment, I am planning to spend ten hours per week composing, starting on 7th January. There...

I will sing praises

I've been incubating a project. It isn't done yet -- won't be for a while -- but I think it's time to start writing about it.I have developed something of an interest in the psalms. Partly to encourage their use in (Christian) liturgy, and partly to indulge in my passion for learning more about them, I want to run a series of workshops. Usually, I find a text that, on some level, seems to speak to me, and then set it, and then it sits in a drawer...

The week ahead, the year ahead.

It's Monday, just barely. I've had a good couple of days of teaching, and got back to Trinity for the first time in 2009 today.I have a lunchtime recital to play in next Wednesday, so most of my practising goals this week are related to making sure I'm in good form for that. This means lots of long, gentle warm-ups, lots of mental study of the pieces I'll be playing and lots of playing through...

Concert; long time no post

It's been a while since I've written here. Since getting back from Somerset I've been gradually getting back into my practise routine, and planning some of my academic projects for this year. I need to spend more time on that latter and will likely document some of it here in the near future. In the meantime, though, a plug for a lunchtime concert!St John on Bethnal Green Lunchtime ConcertThe...
