Stuck in the middle with You

Various folks have blogged on David Cameron’s favourite Bible passage, and the comments that this is the “central message” of the Bible. I did enjoy Archdruid Eileen’s viewpoint.

I suppose it isn’t a definitive answer, but apparently someone asked Jesus what the central message of the Bible is. Or at least, the greatest commandment.

I shouldn’t like to argue.

  1. Well, to be fair, when Jesus was asked that question only the first half of the Bible had been written. Cameron's favourite quote comes from the post-Jesus section.

  2. Well the way I read it the *intent* is to say "knowing about christianity is great".But I read it as a more general message that knowledge is very valuable and powerful in all sorts of good ways.

  3. Plus for me to like it, it has to be a) something I can take as non-christian and b) inside my very limited mental stock of bible quotes.

  4. Bertrand Russell, who of course was no particular friend of Christianity, nevertheless claimed a favourite Bible verse, Exodus 23:2: "thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil". (The relevance of this to the original post will be left undefined herein.)
